The art of the perfect air to air image is a composition of many different factors.
Undoubtedly the formation flying skill of the subject planes' pilot is a mayor one.
Sometimes the pilot is formation- experienced and a shoot is completed with relatively low effort.
However sometimes, as with this shooting, the pilot has solid flight experience but has never flown closer to an airplane than published separation distances.
That's where it becomes the photographers responsibility to talk the pilot into the formation and where he needs to be for a good photo.
The key difference from a shooting with formation native pilots is the amount of time it takes to form a solid formation arrangement.
In this case, after some 10 minutes of instructing, the subject pilot became comfortable in the formation and the images turned out excellent!
